Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents Launches Insurance Career Pathway Program
Workforce development initiative provides scholarship-based training, licensing preparation and placement support for property & casualty agency roles
MILFORD, Mass. (February 17, 2026)—The Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA) today announced the launch of its Insurance Career Pathway Program, a workforce development initiative designed to recruit, train and license new talent for the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry, and connect qualified candidates with job opportunities at MAIA member agencies.
The program addresses one of the industry’s most pressing challenges: building a reliable pipeline of new professionals as staffing needs continue to grow across independent agencies. Through a structured curriculum, participants receive foundational training in personal lines coverage, customer service and agency operations, along with guided preparation for the Massachusetts Property & Casualty licensing exam.
“Finding and developing new talent is a top priority for our industry,” said Nick Fyntrilakis, president and CEO of MAIA. “The Insurance Career Pathway program introduces motivated individuals to insurance careers while helping MAIA member agencies connect with trained, entry-level professionals who are ready to contribute from day one.”
Scholarship-Based Training and a Structured Pathway Into Insurance Careers
MAIA is offering a full, scholarship-funded program to individuals who are not currently working in the insurance industry and are interested in beginning a stable, professional career in personal lines insurance. Participants receive full tuition coverage — a $2,000 value — along with one attempt at a state licensing exam, foundational agency training, and ongoing support as they progress through the program.
Those accepted into the program complete MAIA’s New Agent Training curriculum alongside P&C licensing preparation and agency operations fundamentals, supported by professional development and job-readiness guidance.
The first class begins February 17, with additional classes offered on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship covers full program tuition, course materials and Massachusetts Property & Casualty licensing exam fees. A $150 refundable commitment fee is required upon acceptance and refunded upon successful completion of the program.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Massachusetts residency; 18 years of age or older
- Not currently employed by a MAIA member agency
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Ability to complete the full program schedule
- Meeting Massachusetts licensure suitability standards (including no disqualifying criminal history under M.G.L. c.175 §162R)
Comprehensive Curriculum Built for Real-World Agency Success
Participants complete a 60-hour training program combining on-demand and live instruction. Coursework includes Insurance Basics; Homeowners coverage and endorsements; condominium and HO endorsements; personal auto coverage and endorsements; personal umbrella policies; Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) procedures; coaching modules; agency operations and workflow fundamentals; and Agency Management System (AMS) basics, such as Applied Epic, AMS360 or similar platforms. The program also includes focused preparation for the Massachusetts P&C licensing exam.
By the end of the program, graduates are prepared for the Massachusetts P&C licensing exam and enter agency roles with a working understanding of personal lines coverages, documentation standards, workflows and professional expectations.
Placement Support With MAIA Member Agencies
Upon successful completion and fulfillment of licensing requirements, graduates will be made available to MAIA member agencies seeking qualified, entry-level professionals. MAIA will provide structured placement assistance to help connect candidates and agencies.
“This is a win-win,” added Fyntrilakis. “Participants gain a supported entry into a rewarding field, and agencies gain access to trained, licensed, and industry-ready talent.”
Placement is not guaranteed.
Application and Interview Process
Applications are now open and reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will participate in a pre-admission interview prior to acceptance.
