December 2012

Number One Agency wishes you and yours a warm holiday season. Thank you for another great year. We appreciate our member agents and look forward to working with each of you in 2013.

Change to Commission Payments (Direct Deposit Begins January 1st)

The Number One Agency will begin paying commissions via direct deposit as of January 1, 2013. You may have already seen a request to return your Authorization for Automatic Deposit Form to our office.  Please be sure your office returns this form as it will be required to pay commissions in 2013.

The decision to move away from a paper check and statement to direct deposit and e-statement brings greater efficiency to our office. As a result, we will now be able to pay commissions on a monthly basis versus the quarterly schedule we have utilized in the past.

Please make sure we have the most up-to-date information for your agency. Please complete this Authorization for Automatic (Direct) Deposit Form, attach a Voided Check and return to us via email, fax or mail.

Email:  Send to Ping Chen, our Agency Accounting Manager at dpchen@massagent.com.  (For easy processing, PLEASE type “ACH Authorization” on the subject line of your email.)

Fax:  We are providing three fax numbers below to hopefully avoid you receiving a busy signal: (508) 634-2930 or (508) 634-2931 or (508) 634-2936.

Mail:  Number One Insurance Agency, Inc., 91 Cedar Street, Milford, MA 01757.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ann Tobin, Agency Manager, by email to atobin@massagent.com or by phone at (800) 742-6363, extension 366.

An E&O Twist on WC – Are Your Aware of Employees in Other States?

This fall we received numerous calls from agents whose insureds were experiencing WC audits by states not listed on their WC policy. We found that in several cases, the insured had an employee working in another state but had failed to tell their agent or list that state on their WC policy.  At times this resulted in state fees (often significant amounts) levied on the insured.  While the agents involved were not aware that their insured had an employee in another state, clients were still upset about both the fines and the hassle.

To help avoid this situation in the future, we suggest informing your insureds of the states covered on their WC policy in Part 1 and remind them that if they have ANY employees working other states, that they should contact you to discuss. Hopefully, based on the account and your carrier, you would be able to endorse their current policy to secure coverage.

Have Questions about Workers’ Comp? Send them into our WC Team! Colleen Lahna is available to discuss current policies or contact Barbara Lobdell with new business inquiries and applications.

Flood: Superstorm Sandy Breeds Potential E&O Claims

Flood Insurance Program
Highly competitive commissions for new and rollover business...Easy as 1-2-3!

As an agent you are in the business of finding creative solutions to the risk management needs of your clients. And when faced with a claim, insureds can get creative, too.

We have heard through the grapevine that E&O carriers have received claims on behalf of insureds who are seeking financial restitution after finding coverage inadequate in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.  While we will have to wait and see how these E&O claims play out, be aware that the results of Superstorm Sandy are still fresh in everyone’s mind.  NOW is the time to review current limits, discuss adding a Flood policy, and determine if an Excess Flood Policy is needed.

If you aren’t selling or marketing flood insurance…you should be! If your agency already writes flood, you may want to consider our program. Why? Because our Write Your Own Flood Program with The Hartford provides:

  • Excellent Commissions of 20% on new & rollover - 19% on renewal,
  • Superior Customer Service - including a real time “online chat” function,
  • Full-Service Website and online quoting system (check out all the features here).

MAIA members are eligible to join our Write Your Own Flood Program with The Hartford. Get started by contacting Sheron Gagnon at 800.742.6363. She can assist you in signing up, rolling over an existing book, or directing you to some available marketing materials.
