The Insurance Career Pathway provides a comprehensive, scholarship-funded pathway for individuals new to the insurance industry who are seeking a stable, professional career. This six-month program blends MAIA’s trusted New Agent Training – Personal Lines curriculum with Property & Casualty licensing preparation, agency operations fundamentals, structured check-ins with industry professionals, and career development guidance.

Participants receive full tuition coverage — a $2,000 value — along with one attempt at a state licensing exam, foundational agency training, and ongoing support as they progress. Graduates will also receive connections to participating MAIA member agencies, offering a structured entry into a growing and rewarding industry.

Eligibility requirements include being 18 years or older, a resident of Massachusetts, not currently employed in the independent insurance industry, capable of completing the six-month program, and meeting the standards to sit for the P&C licensing exam.

The program includes MAIA’s New Agent Training – Personal Lines coursework, P&C licensing exam preparation, agency operations basics, and periodic professional development check-ins, such as:
– Meet & greet with an agent or agency owner
– Shadowing opportunities
– “Day in the life” experiences

Participants also receive guidance on future certifications and professional development after completing the program.

Total Course Commitment: 60 Hours

Scholarship Details

The scholarship covers full tuition, program materials, and one attempt at a state P&C licensing exam. A $150 participant commitment fee is required upon acceptance and will be fully refunded upon successful program completion.

Passing the P&C state exam is not required to receive the refund. If a participant does not pass the licensing exam on their first attempt, they are responsible for any additional exam fees.

Job Placement Support

Graduates receive support in connecting with MAIA member agencies looking for newly trained talent. While placement isn't guaranteed, MAIA offers structured assistance to help match candidates with available roles and prepare them for agency work.

Application & Interview Process

Application Due Date:
No set deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected candidates will be invited to interview before being accepted into the program.

Program Start Date:
There is no set start date. Classes are offered multiple times throughout the year, allowing for flexible scheduling.

After Acceptance:
Once accepted, students will receive an acceptance letter with instructions to submit the refundable $150 commitment fee. You will also be provided with information to schedule a meeting with our Education Manager, Betty Amaro-White, to select your classes and complete registration to begin the program.
