The Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents is offering a full scholarship to individuals who are not currently working in the independent insurance industry and are interested in beginning a professional career in Personal Lines insurance.

Program Overview

Participants accepted into this scholarship program will complete the Insurance Career Pathway track, which includes:

  • All New Agent Training coursework
  • Property & Casualty licensing preparation (one state exam attempt included)
  • Agency operations and agency management fundamentals
  • Job-readiness support and professional development check-ins (meet-and-greets, shadowing, “day-in-the-life” experiences)
  • Placement assistance with participating MAIA member agencies (employment not guaranteed)

This six-month program provides a strong foundation in personal lines insurance coverages, prepares you to take the Massachusetts Property & Casualty licensing exam, introduces you to agency workflows and professional expectations, and offers career guidance after completion. The scholarship, valued at $2,000, covers program tuition, course materials, and the fee for one attempt at a P&C state licensing exam.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • I am at least 18 years of age;
  • I have not committed any act that is a ground for denial, suspension or revocation set forth in section 162R (General Law - Part I, Title XXII, Chapter 175, Section 162R);
  • When required by the commissioner, I have completed a prelicensing course of study for the lines of authority for which the person has applied; (Currently, Massachusetts does not require prelicensing for producers)
  • I will/can pay the Massachusetts State licensing fees prescribed by section 14; (General Law - Part I, Title XXII, Chapter 175, Section 162L)
  • I will take, and to be licensed, successfully pass the examinations for the lines of authority for which I apply;
  • I am a US Citizen or have proper authority to work in the U.S.;
  • I am not currently employed in the independent insurance industry;
  • I am able to commit to completing the full program schedule within six months, including classroom sessions, virtual coursework, licensing exam preparation, and required check-ins;
  • I will be available for a pre-admission interview; and
  • I agree to the program’s attendance, professionalism, and completion requirements.

Commitment Fee

A $150 commitment fee is required only after acceptance into the scholarship program.

  • $150 will be refunded in full upon successful completion of the program (refund is based on program completion, not on passing the P&C licensing exam)
  • The fee helps ensure applicants are committed to completing the whole program and reserves the participant’s seat.
  • The scholarship covers the cost of one P&C licensing exam attempt. licensing exam attempt. If additional exam attempts are needed, the participant is responsible for subsequent exam fees.
